Notes from the Executive Director

As spring begins to arrive in Big Sky we are busy working on our Summer Camp Scholarship program.  Through your generous support we look forward to providing a fun, safe and educational place for our local children to spend their time this summer.  We are also very excited about our brand new fundraising event in August.  Our croquet event will take a rest as we host our first ever WIA Golf Tournament at the Spanish Peaks Club.  Spanish Peaks has generously teamed up with us to offer a first class event. Space is limited so grab your spot now!! We continue to work hard with our partners to put forth quality programs that enrich the lives of children and families.  Your support is what makes it all possible.  THANK YOU!!

Camp Angel Fundraising

Women in Action's Camp Angel fundraising initiative has met our goal for sending Big Sky's kids to summer and winter camps yet again.  To date, the generosity of community donors has raised our camp angel fund to just over $32,000 for the summer and winter camp scholarship programs. These funds allow children and their families to apply for funding assistance to attend a variety of winter and summer activity camps in and around the Big Sky area, the majority of which are managed and organized by local community organizations.

We thank all of our very generous camp angels, who are making the camp experience a reality for the children of Big Sky.

Summer Camp Scholarships

The Application process for summer camp scholarships offered by WIA has begun, and applications are now being accepted.  Families interested in applying can find the camp scholarship application under the financial application link on our website, or may pick up an application in person at Ophir School, or Morningstar Learning Center.

Applications are due no later than Friday, May 23rd.

Good-bye Croquet, Hello Spanish Peaks' WIA Golf Tournament!

Save the date for Thursday, August 7th for the inaugural Women in Action 9-hole golf tournament at Spanish Peaks' golf course.

Looking for a change from our Croquet Tournament, which assisted in major fundraising accomplishments for the past 8 years, Women in Action decided to venture out and seek a new and different experience for our supporters that included fun, and fundraising.

With some collaborative ideas, dedicated supporters, and partners in the community, Women in Action has partnered with Spanish Peaks to organize and bring together a 9-hole golf tournament, dubbed "Women in Action's 'Par the Peaks' Golf Tournament".  Nine holes of golf will be followed by a post tournament feast, music, and merriment.  Details, cost to participate, and sponsorship opportunities will be outlined on our website, so keep an eye out for more to come soon!  Spaces will be limited, so be sure not to miss out on this inaugural event.

WIA Applies for Resort Tax Funding

Women in Action has submitted an application to Big Sky's Resort Area District tax office in the amount of $30,000.  This amount is consistent with past year's requests for funding to support our Community Counseling and Substance Abuse Programs, which address the issue of mental health and impact the overall wellbeing of the community.  These are the only counseling services or programs of this kind provided in the Big Sky area, and Women in Action firmly believes that services of these types are vital in a young and growing community like Big Sky.

The presentation of this application was presented along with other community applications at the BSRAD Resort Tax Q&A meeting on Wednesday, May 14th at 1pm.  Allocations will be decided at the June Resort Tax meeting.

WIA by the Numbers in 2013

The numbers have been gathered, and the benefits of WIA's programs measured, in our 2013 Annual Report.  Gathering information on how our programs served and benefitted Big Sky community members, Women in Action has put together a simple and graphic presentation of our accomplishments over the past year.
