Notes from the Executive Director

Summer has been busy for Women In Action! We welcomed in a new event with our very first 'Par the Peaks' Golf Tournament, which was a tremendous success, and have also launched a brand new program with our Enrichment Scholarship Program.  We provided 37 local kids with the opportunity to participate in Summer Camp and are gearing up to once again offer our Winter Camp Scholarships so that skiing is an affordable option for the children of the hardworking families in our community.  We continue to grow and evolve our organization as we strive to best meet the needs of the children and families in Big Sky.  Thank you for your support of Women In Action.  Your commitment to our community is inspiring.

Announcing NEW Enrichment Scholarship Program

Women In Action will now offer scholarships to children of local families, in grades K-12, who would like to participate in an educational or artistic focused activity that is not in the form of a camp.  Whether it is a language, an art program, drama or other performing arts, this program gives working families a chance to provide an experience that will foster education, artistic interest, and creative learning opportunities for their children.  Enrichment Scholarship applications are available at Big Sky School, Morningstar Learning Center or by downloading one at www.wiabigsky.org.  There is no application deadline.  Applications will be reviewed on a continual basis.  Please email info@wiabigsky.org or call 406-209-7098 for more information.

Summer Camp Scholarships

Women In Action awarded 37 Summer Camp Scholarships to local children so that they could share in the experience of camp.  Our campers played basketball, rode horses, rock climbed, danced, golfed, played drums and they were able to do these things because of you!!  Children were given the opportunity to learn new skills and experience new things.  These scholarships provided a safe and meaningful place for our local kids to grow and learn this Summer and give their hard working families peace of mind.  Our Camp Angel fundraising is what makes this possible so thank you again to our Camp Angels!

Par the Peaks Golf Tournament

Save the date for Thursday, August 7th for the inaugural Women in Action 9-hole golf tournament at Spanish Peaks' golf course.

Thank you to all who participated in our first ever Par the Peaks Golf Tournament.  The Spanish Peaks Mountain Club and their membership graciously provided an idyllic location for this spectacular event.  Through your generosity we were able to gross over $30,000!!!  The funds raised will be used to continue to provide Women In Action’s Community Counseling Program, Drug & Alcohol Counseling Program and the Parent Liaison Program in the Big Sky School District.

Please take a moment to watch the fabulous slideshow generously provided by Tori Pintar Photography.

And of course, thank you to our generous Par the Peaks Sponsors, without whom this would not have been possible:

WIA Receives Resort Tax Funding

The Resort Tax Board has allocated $30,000 to Women In Action.  This funding will allow WIA to continue to provide the Community Counseling Program and the Drug & Alcohol Counseling Program.  These programs would not be possible without the generosity of the Big Sky Resort Tax.   WIA is proud to partner with the Big Sky Resort Tax to ensure that we are providing our community members with access to affordable counseling services that encourage a healthier community.

Parent Liaison Program

In partnership with THRIVE, WIA will continue provide the Parent Liaison (PL) Program in the Big Sky School District (BSSD) for the third straight year.  WIA is the sole funding source for this program.   The Parent Liaison program was designed with the belief that the ability of parents to communicate effectively and solve problems with schools and the ability of schools to engage parents as partners in their mission to educate students directly affects the child’s ability to succeed.  Parent Liaisons are professionals who facilitate parenting classes and workshops, assist parents in accessing community resources, support teachers and act as a link between school and home.  The Parent Liaison program has proven that it increases opportunities for school-home partnerships, student academic and social performance, school attendance, parental involvement with schools, level of parenting skills, family access to needed community resources as well as increasing positive interactions between school and family.
