June 2017

Notes from the Executive Director

As we embark on a new year, Women in Action would like to say thank you for the countless acts of generous support in 2014. Thanks to all of you, 2014 was merry and bright! It was a year of growth, of program improvement and development, and of continued outreach and relationship building, extending our mission and our cause throughout the Big Sky community and beyond.   WIA created a new Enrichment Program and a new - and very successful - fundraising event in the form of a golf tournament. Big Sky is growing and Women in Action continues to work hard to meet the needs of the community by putting forth high quality, cost effective programs that enrich the lives of our local children and families.

None of this would be possible without you!  Here is to 2015, and the promise of continued growth, prosperity, and wellness.

Winter Ski Camp Scholarships

Women in Action awarded ski camp scholarships to children of 32 local Big Sky families, providing the opportunity for them to participate in a variety of youth ski programs offered by Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.  This program not only builds relationships between WIA and our local youth program providers, but it also allows the opportunity for children to participate in on mountain opportunities that they otherwise may not be able to.  These recipients are hardworking families who must meet the financial criteria set forth by the Healthy Montana Kids standards in order to be eligible for the program.  In addition, Women in Action partnered with the Big Sky Ski Education Foundation, administering 12 ski scholarships on behalf of their ski program for children of all ages in Big Sky.

Enrichment Scholarship Program

Women In Action was thrilled to team up with ARTSPLOT to bring art to children in grades 3 through 5 at Ophir School.  The purpose of the program is to enhance artistic awareness and appreciation through increased participation in the arts, fostering foster human development and cultural enrichment.

Funds for the program will not only provide more art education, but also art education with more depth and breadth, and a wider array of art materials for the students' overall experience. Specifically, "The Art, The Master" is a program designed to delve into the lives, the art, and the impact of art masters. Participants observe examples and work from similar subject matters in the styles of masters such as Van Gogh, Matisse, and Picasso.

This is the first non-school organized art program that has been introduced to Ophir, and Women in Action is proud to be part of the initiative to bring art back into the lives of Big Sky's children.

WIA Highlighted at Inaugural Holiday Bazaar

The first annual Christmas Bazaar fundraiser was held in December at Buck’s T4 and featured local vendors, artists, and crafters displaying a variety of artistic talents. Women in Action was treated to being showcased as the not-for-profit beneficiary of this inaugural event, receiving a portion of some vendor sales and a community raffle, as well as a percentage of food sales taken in from patrons to the Buck's T-4 dining room throughout the night.

The Christmas Bazaar proved to be a wonderful way to shop for holiday gifts from local vendors, and support Women in Action and local businesses in the community. Thank you to Buck’s T4, vendors & volunteers for helping make this first ever event a great success!!

A special thanks to Mia (?) who worked diligently with Buck's, Women in Action, and all of the local vendors and participants to create a wonderful and successful event.

WIA to Host 'Sip & Paint' Event at Gallatin River Gallery

Women In Action is excited to host a 'Sip & Paint' Art Party Event on Thursday March 5th at Gallatin River Gallery.  In partnership with local artist Jackie Rainford Corcoran and gallery owner Julie Gustafson, Women In Action will be hosting an art event to benefit the growing Enrichment Program.

The parties, which have been hosted at various locations around Big Sky and Bozeman are a great way to get out, test out your artistic ability, and visit with friends.
