April 2015

Spring has arrived, and with it the promise of newness and growth. We hope you'll enjoy reading about all of the work that we have been doing, and some of what's to come.

We are excited about continuing to send our local kids to camp through our camp scholarship program, which last year gave over 35 kids the chance to get out and have a great summer experience.  Children need a variety of experiences in their lives to help them grow into healthy adolescents and adults, so please consider being a camp angel and help us make the idea of camp a reality for a Big Sky child!

Our annual golf tournament fundraiser, "Par the Peaks", has a new home at The Reserve at Moonlight Basin, and we couldn't be more thrilled to start the planning.  We know that this will be a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and show their support of our programming for local children and families.  We hope you will join us!

Thank you for all you do to keep Women In Action going strong, and we hope that spring brings much promise to you as well.

Camp Angel Fundraiser

We are currently kicking off our 6th annual Camp Angel fundraising drive.  The funds raised allow us to provide winter and summer camp scholarships for the youth in our community who otherwise would not be able to participate. These camp scholarship programs are critical for hardworking families who need a place for their children to explore new adventures, learn fundamental skills and receive a safe and positive environment in which to grow and expand their potential. These programs continue to build upon the vision we share of providing children and families with access to programs and services that enrich their lives.

Interested in being a Camp Angel? consider a donation today and send a Big Sky youth to camp!

WIA Paint & Sip Art Party a Great Success

Women In Action partnered with local artist Jackie Rainford Corcoran and Gallatin River Gallery owner Julie Gustafson to host a paint and sip event at Gallatin River Gallery on Thursday, March 5th.  An excellent turn out of friends and supporters of Women in Action came together to test their artistic skills and enjoy conversation with friends both new and old.  Those who were looking to explore their creative side did so while supporting Women In Action, in an environment that bred good discussion and great art.  Thank you to Julie Gustafson, owner of Gallatin River Gallery, and Jackie Rainford Corcoran of Rainford Art for providing this exceptional evening to our guests.

Resort Tax Sought for Continued Support of Community Counseling Program

Women In Action will be submitting an application to Resort Tax on April 6th for the Community Counseling and Drug & Alcohol Counseling programs.  These counseling programs improve the overall health and well-being of the Big Sky community by providing critical access to quality, confidential and affordable counseling services for those unable to commute to Bozeman for care.  We have addressed the lack of services by providing the only counseling services of any kind available in Big Sky.  In 2014, Our community counseling program provided over 223 counseling hours and our drug and alcohol counseling program provided unduplicated services to 49 individuals. Resort Tax funding is imperative so that Women In Action can continue to provide these very necessary services.  The Resort Tax Question & Answer will be held in the Big Sky Chapel Community room on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 @1:00 p.m.

Please consider attending to show your support!

Women in Action, by the Numbers

Women in Action has just completed another review of our programs and budget breakdown for 2014, and we are proud to report that 2014 marked another successful year.  With your generous support, we were able to provide services to 484 program participants that received benefits in education, support, counseling services, camp scholarships, art and music, and more.  Seventy-five percent of our budget was spent on Programs, 15% on Operations, and 10% on Fundraising efforts.  With support of programs like the Parent Liaison Program, we helped provide 165 families in the Big Sky School District. Forty-nine individuals received help through our drug and alcohol counseling program, and 67 summer and winter camp scholarships were given out to Big Sky's children.  For more information on the breakdown of WIA's annual report, visit our website and learn more about our numbers in action.
