WIA Welcomes New Executive Director

As Women in Action (WIA) kicks off the celebration of our 10th anniversary this year, we are excited to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director, Jennifer O’Connor.   No stranger to working with non-profits in Big Sky, Jennifer was hired into her new position just a few short months ago, and has risen immediately to the occasion.  After spending four years as the President of the Big Sky Parent Teach Association, and more recently as the Development Director for Morningstar Learning Center,  she is also an active leader of the Big Sky Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.  She and her husband, David from Buck’s T4, have three children at Ophir.  With a love of collaboration and a dedication to the families of Big Sky, Jennifer is very excited about her new position.

With this new hire comes a change of roles for previous Director, Rachel Thesing.  After founding WIA in 2006, Rachel, along with the WIA board, set out to provide much needed services for children and families in Big Sky.  To continue her passion for the organization, Rachel will take on a new role as Chairman of the WIA Advisory Committee, continuing to ensure the future success of the organization.

Please welcome Jennifer as she leads us into our next decade of great things for the families of Big Sky.

WIA Participates in GIVEBIG Gallatin County; Raises Awareness and Funding

Women In Action was thrilled to be able to participate in this year’s GIVEBIG Gallatin Valley fundraising campaign, an online donation opportunity that brought together dozens of local area non-profits in an effort to raise money and awareness for a variety of worth, hard-working causes. In spite of a few technical glitches on the donation website, this was a great way for WIA to introduce ourselves to untapped audiences, and for people to learn about our programs and show their support.  As an incentive to visit, everyone that visited our Donor Lounge was entered into a raffle to win a $100 Buck’s T4 gift certificate, an autographed copy of Montana Panoramic, and other fun prizes - our way of giving back to our supporters, and offering a show of appreciation for the effort to find out more about us.  If you were unable to participate, you can still show your support by donating to one of our programs, or by giving your support through our annual appeal.  To learn more, visit our website, and help us continue to elevate our children and families of Big Sky.

Winter Scholarships

Thank you to everyone that helped make our Winter Scholarship program a success.  We provided 35 local students with ski scholarships this winter and the kids LOVED their experience. Their hardworking parents were especially grateful to have their children participate in an activity that is such a vital part of the Big Sky experience.

Women in Action Board Retreat, Board Evaluation

In January, our Board of Directors held our annual retreat where we approved our budget and plans for 2016. At this time, we also assessed the operation of our organization to determined areas where we excel and can improve. We discussed each program to determine our financial obligations, risks and benefits of providing the program, and if we are reaching our intended recipients. This also kicked off the planning process for our annual Golf fundraiser in September.  At the February Board meeting we completed a nonprofit Board evaluation with Terry Profota from Sage solutions.  We were very pleased with our results and already fine tuning our organization based on the results.
